Two Wins in One Day
On May 24, the 6th (2023) China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition — Orthopedic Device Category and Diagnostic Equipment Category — officially commenced in Tianjin. The event was co-hosted by the National Medical Device Industry Technology Innovation Alliance, the Tianjin Municipal Drug Administration, and the Tianjin Binhai High-tech Zone Management Committee, with support from the Tianjin Medical Device Review and Inspection Center, the Tianjin Binhai High-tech Zone Biomedical Industry Bureau, and the Tianjin Medical Device Technology Innovation Service Center.
The China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (part of the "Innovation China" series) has been successfully held for five consecutive editions under the guidance of the China Association for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The previous five editions attracted 283, 607, 665, 831, and 733 medical device innovation projects from home and abroad respectively, with nearly 3,000 companies and innovation service and investment institutions participating. Post-competition tracking showed that award-winning projects averaged over RMB 1.35 billion in financing within six months of each edition. This was the first time in competition history that a provincial-level drug regulatory authority served as a co-host.
Following the principle of "standardization, rigor, and evidence-based evaluation," the competition conducted rigorous screening of nearly 1,000 projects in the preliminary round, ultimately inviting over 80 innovative projects to compete in the semi-finals, showcasing cutting-edge achievements in medical device innovation. Nearly 100 senior industry experts from research institutions, investment firms, innovation service organizations, and leading domestic and international medical device companies gathered in the Binhai High-tech Zone to discuss technological innovation in the medical device sector.
Dual Awards
Competing alongside numerous universities, research institutes, and corporate innovation teams, the Medgen team delivered outstanding presentations over two intense days. Ultimately, two Medgen projects — "Inducible Bone Repair Material" and "Rotator Cuff Patch" — distinguished themselves, both ranking in the industry top ten and earning third prize.
This was Medgen's first participation in a medical device innovation competition, and both projects achieved excellent results. The awards validate Medgen's R&D capabilities and confirm that its innovative product direction has received strong recognition from industry experts, further strengthening the company's commitment to innovation-driven development. Medgen will continue to deepen scientific and technological innovation, with new products to follow.
